Local Liberal Democrats concerned over lack of public toilets
Rutherglen Councillor Robert Brown, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on South Lanarkshire Council said:
“Public toilets have been one of the important things that have been been hit by the salami slicing cuts local communities have had from the SNP Scottish Government over the last decade. I am sure there are loads of people who are concerned about venturing out if there is not going to be a public toilet available to them. This is a particular issue in tourist areas.
In practice, the way forward is to encourage local cafes and other facilities to make toilets available to the public and to make sure public buildings with toilets are well signposted. Public parks are particularly important and toilets as part of a broader facility like a sports club is sometimes a solution.
Local Councils are long overdue a fair funding settlement from the Scottish Government to enable them to provide public facilities like toilets."
