Liberal Democrats stand ready to fix our broken politics

Gloria said that Scotland and Britain had suffered badly from being governed by the Conservatives in Westminster and the SNP in Holyrood – who had both been in power far too long. Both Governments were mired in scandal and failure.

Liberal Democrat plans to reform politics includes:

  • Making every vote count by introducing proportional representation for electing MPs;
  • Ending the WhatsApp deletion scandals;
  • Reforming the House of Lords;
  • A written constitution for the UK;
  • A right to recall your MSP.

Gloria Adebo said:

“I have been impressed and depressed by the high number of people who have lost belief in politics, many of whom are not likely to vote at all. We need to put power back in the hands of the voters and make politics work again.

People are fed up of the deterioration of standards, the secrecy and rule breaking seen on an almost daily basis. Whether it be unaccountable government contracts or inexplicable appointments to the House of Lords, the secrecy surrounding debacles like the blood transfusion issue or the sub post master scandal, the hasty deletion by Scottish Ministers of Covid emails, or simply the incompetence shown by the Conservative Government crashing the economy under Liz Truss or the SNP Government unable to build life line ferries, it is time for a fresh start.

Now we find that the SNP Government has had to give back £450m of EU funding through incompetence in bin g unable to spend it. What a nonsense!

A fair voting system would make every vote count and boost accountability. It is also time the Conservative and SNP Governments stopped squabbling and started working together in the interests of local people and local communities.

The Conservatives and the SNP have both been in power too long, breaking the rules and taking people for granted. Liberal Democrats stand ready to fix our broken politics. Our local champions will put public service back into the beating heart of that politics.”
