Food Bank use
Cllr Robert Brown, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on South Lanarkshire Council and Chair of the Communities & Enterprise Committee said:
"The statistics on food bank use, Financial Wellbeing Fund awards, energy vouchers and Warm Welcome events show the sheer number of families suffering hardship as a result of soaring food and energy prices and the cost of living crisis generally.
It also shows that local Councils, local organisations and local communities - not distant central government in Edinburgh or London - are best placed to deliver help to people in these difficult times.
It is extremely worrying just how many people are struggling against these unprecedented pressures on family budgets.
The Government can’t just let this go on. Liberal Democrats have campaigned for, and are continuing to demand, more help from the Government to continue to support programmes to help people through the cost of living crisis, and with their mortgages and housing costs.
The rate of inflation is at last thankfully dropping but prices are still going up, and the position seems to be worse here than in other countries in Europe."
